First Graduation Exercise Held at Toothacre School
(25 June 1953 - The Observer)
The Toothacre School recently held its first eighth grade graduation in the history of the school. There have been graduates from the school, but no official recognition was given in the district.
The exercises this year are due to the efforts of Mrs. Ruth Moe, teacher of the school. Graduates were Joan Dyke, Gerta Dykstra, Jerry Bouwkamp and Beverly Bos.
In the picture above Derrill Bos, director of the school, is shown presenting an eighth grade diploma to his daughter, Beverly. Curiously enough it was just 30 years ago, to the week, that the father had received his eighth grade diploma.
The address of the evening was given by Harold Laug of Coopersville, and the children of the school presented a play, songs, and recitations.
