Andrew Thompson
On Monday morning, died in this city, Andrew Thompson, after a lingering disease of several months. Mr. Thompson came to this place shortly after the war, and was generally esteemed and respected. Attending to his own affairs, he was always willing to devote a due share of his time for the welfare of the public. To his perseverance and public spirit, in common with a few others, we owe much, if not all of the organization of our Fire Department. For several years he was Foreman of our "Eagle Fire Engine Co.," No.1, and subsequently Chief Engineer of the Department. Mr. Thompson was 88 years old, and leaves a wife and three children. His remains were escorted to the grave by the Fire Department and the Masonic Fraternity of which he was a member.
